Using First Class to Host a Webpage

Science Council PD Day Workshop

April 24, 2009

Presented by Jean-Louis Bontront

This workshop will show you how to use your first class account with the Board to host a webpage.

I personally use my webspace to maintain webpages for some of the classes that I teach. On those webpages, I include answer keys to homework assignments, links to interesting websites applicable to the course, as well as a calendar where I announce quiz and test dates as well as homework assignments (parents LOVE having easy access to this information!). Doing all of these things with web authoring software (such as Dreamweaver) and your first-class email account is very easy. You will be shown how to do three specific tasks:

1) Create a simple webpage using Adobe or Marcromedia Dreamweaver using only Texts and Links (to keep things simple)

2) How to publish your web page files in your First Class webspace. Also, how to publish changes to your webpage.

3) How to create a first class web calendar for your webpage.

Everything that you will be shown today is included in this PDF document which you can download and print for reference.

The First Class client software is available on the teacher's essentials CD. Dreamwearver is ministry licensed through OSAPAC, which means you can install it free of charge on your home computer for educational use. You can obtain a copy of Macromedia Dreamweaver (for older computers) or Adobe Dreamweaver (part of Adobe CS3) (for newer computers) from your school's computer contact. [Dreamweaver is already installed on all school computers.]
